NFL pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as Bills thrash Rams in season opener

Bills quarterback Josh Allen showed off his MVP credentials as the Los Angeles Rams slipped at the first hurdle of their Super Bowl defense in a devastating 31-10 defeat to Buffalo at SoFi Stadium to open the 2022 season.

It was a huge performance from the Bills’ offense from start to finish as Allen threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns on Thursday night, while rushing for 56 yards and a four-yard scramble TD. Gabriel Davis, Isiah McKenzie and Stefon Diggs all made the endzone in LA.

Davis opened the scoring in the first quarter, before Cooper Kupp caught a Matthew Stafford dime to make the score even at 10-10 at halftime.

However, three second-half touchdowns ensured Buffalo got off to the perfect start.

The game was largely dominated by Buffalo’s explosive offense under new coordinator Ken Dorsey, while the Bills defense suffocated the Super Bowl champs in their own home.

They recorded seven sacks on Matthew Stafford, the most allowed under head coach Sean McVay’s tenure in LA, as Matthew Stafford threw for 240 yards.

There was a moments silence prior to kick-off for Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, who died on Thursday at the age of 96.

MVP front runner?

It was a game full of superstars, but the most valuable player in the season opener was undoubtedly Josh Allen.

As we predicted, Allen stepped up as the favourite for the season MVP award on opening night. He was on point from start to finish, quickly demonstrating that he is the quarterback to beat in the league at this moment in time.

On defense, Von Miller proved that the transition from LA to Buffalo was the correct decision this offseason. He recorded two sacks and looked a menace throughout, helping to shut out the Rams in the second half.

Up next for the Bills are the #1 seed from AFC in 2021 in the Tennessee Titans, whilst the Rams host the Atlanta Falcons next week.
