Nolan Anderson’s NFL Power Rankings: Post Week Six
With week six in the books, we are officially one third of the way through the season, and the league is truly starting to take shape. With enough games in the books, we have reformatted our rankings into three tiers: Contenders, Playoff Hopefuls, and the Maybe Next Years.
CONTENDERS
- Eagles (last week #1)
The Eagles remain the only unbeaten team in the NFL. If you’re looking for a weakness, this team needs to learn to finish teams off, as the Eagles have allowed too many inferior teams to claw their way back into games.
- Bills (last week #2)
It was the rematch we were all waiting for, and it delivered. The Bill’s took down the Chiefs in what could be the deciding factor in home field advantage come playoff time. The addition of Von Miller to the defense was a game changer, and the Bills are looking like the AFC favorites so many predicted them to be.
- Vikings (last week #5)
At some point, we must recognize wins as wins. Cousins isn’t elite, the Packers will be the team to beat, blah, blah, blah. It doesn’t matter, the Vikes are winning.
- Giants (last week #7)
Speaking of winners, the Giants cannot be stopped. Good coaches do more with less, and head Brian Daboll is doing the most.
- Chiefs (last week #3)
Mahomes may go down as one of the most talented quarter backs to ever play the game, but that pick in the final minute of the game was a brutal mistake.
PLAYOFF HOPEFULS
- Chargers (last week #10)
The sign of an elite QB is his ability to elevate his team, and with half a healthy rib set, Justin Herbert is doing everything in his power to carry the team, grinding out a tough divisional win against the Broncos.
- Jets (last week #23)
The Jets have the biggest jump in our rankings following the absolute shellacking of the Packers at Lambeau!
- Bengals (last week #12)
Chase and Burrow made their return to the sight of their 2019 National Championship and delivered another stunning performance at the Superdome.
- Ravens (last week #4)
The Ravens have last 3 games and have only trailed in less than 4 minutes total this season. A statistical anomaly or a sign that the Ravens cannot close games.
- Cowboys (last week #6)
Dak is coming back next week, and in his absence the Cowboys went 4-1. Could you ask for more from a backup? The rest of season will come down to the health of Dak, but the Boys couldn’t ask to be in a better position.
- Seahawks (last week # 15)
QB Geno Smith is that dude. He is in the top five in yards, completions, and touchdowns one third of the way through the season
- Rams (last week #14)
In the 20+ games QB Matthew Stafford has started for the Rams, he has led the league in pick sixes, and is far and away the NFL leader in this category this season. Is it the thumb, that gunslinger mentality? Either way, he needs to fix this, and fast, for the Rams to make the playoffs.
- Patriots (last week #20)
If there is one thing you can count on in the NFL, is that no one holds a grudge like Bill Belichick. Since the Browns fired Belichick, he is 9-2 against his former team. The Browns didn’t stand a chance.
- Falcons (last week #22)
The Falcons might not be the most dominant offensive unit, but they are certainly the most fun to watch. Behind inventive schemes and pure speed, this Falcons may be the surprise team of the Season.
- Titans (last week #16)
A quiet bye week for the Titans, here’s hoping they spent the extra time getting King Henry back fully healthy.
- Colts (last week #25)
The Colts are an enigma, one week Matt Ryan looks washed, and the Colts get absolutely dominated against the Jaguars. Two weeks later, down their top offensive weapon, the Colts turned the tables on the Jags, with Matt Ryan delivering one of the top QB performances across the league.
- Packers (last week #11)
Is it officially time to sound the alarm? QB Aaron Rodgers was given the worst home loss of his entire career to the Jets! THE JETS!
- Buccaneers (last week #8)
Tom Brady is halfway retired, and you can’t straddle the fence when it comes to football. His entire career, brady has been put on a pedestal as the ultimate competitor, yet he can skip walkthroughs on Saturday for a weeding?
- 49ers (last week #9)
When Nick Bosa doesn’t play, the Niners don’t win, its pretty simple.
- Dolphins (last week #13)
Does anyone else feel like the Dolphins are cursed for how they handled the Tua situation? Because the Dolphins sure do look cursed to me.
- Jaguars (last week #18)
Im still waiting for Trevor Lawrence to show signs of his “once is a generation” draft status. So far, he has been quite average, and the Jags aren’t going to take that next step until Lawrence does.
MAYBE NEXT YEAR
- Raiders (last week #21)
The best thing for the Raiders and their fans this season was to take a week off.
- Cardinals (last week #19)
After another awful divisional loss, the Cardinals do have good news on the horizon, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is returning from suspension, and maybe he will be that piece to unleash the offense, but I doubt it.
- Commanders (Last week #24)
Carson Wentz is not a good QB. Head Coach Ron Rivera can yell at the media all he wants to defend him, but it doesn’t change the fact the Wentz is not a competent QB. He’s out for now, but what does his long-term future hold?
- Browns (last week #17)
What happened to the Browns defense? With Watson out for 11 games, the Browns were supposed to rely on their defense to keep the team afloat, and yet they were dominated by a third string rookie on Sunday.
- Saints (Last week #29)
How do you tank and keep the fans happy? Follow the Saints formula. They can’t win games, but they keep them close and entertaining.
- Steelers (Last week #31)
This is why the games are played. No one expected the Steelers to beat Tom Brady and the Bucs, but of all people, Mitch Trubisky outplayed Brady and the Steelers got the win.
- Broncos (last week #26)
Does anyone else just feel bad for the Broncos and Russell Wilson? At first the disfunction was kind of funny, but now it is getting depressing.
- Bears (Last week #24)
Its time to cut the cord and move on from Justin Fields, plain and simple he is not the QB of now or the future.
- Lions (last week #28)
Maybe being likable isn’t enough. Head Coach Dan Campbell is loved by his fans and p[layers. But despite this, the Lions keep losing.
- Texans (last week #32)
The Texans have good news this week. They have finally fired Jack Easterby!
- Panthers (last week #27)
The most entertaining the Panthers have been this season was watching Robbie Anderson pull an Antonio Brown on the sidelines.
