A day at the NFL for Jaguars vs. Falcons at Wembley

The NFL London Games for 2023 kicked off with a bang at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, as the Jacksonville Jaguars opened the international series with a comfortable 23-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

A crowd of 85,716 watched the Jaguars charge into a 17-0 lead after two first-half touchdowns.

It was a day to forget for the Falcons, making their second trip to the British capital in the last two years, having beaten the New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in 2021.

They replied to the Jaguars electric start with a Drake London touchdown at the start of the third quarter. Atlanta quarterback Desmond Ridder recovered from a woeful first half to keep the game alive.

And although London caught a Ridder pass high at the back of the end zone in the fourth, he was denied a touchdown as he did not manage to put both feet inbounds as he landed.

Trevor Lawrence threw a to a score to Calvin Ridley in the game, while Brandon McManus made the first of three field goals to stretch the lead before Darious Williams intercepted Ridder and ran it back for a 61-yard touchdown.

The Jaguars, who have played in every London series since 2013, then added their third field goal of the day to ensure they had the final say in the 10th game they have played in London.

They travel to Tottenham to take on the Buffalo Bills next Sunday. For the Falcons, they’ll be looking to get back on track against the Houston Texans.

At the game at Wembley, offGrid NFL reporters joined forces with other channels from across the NFL landscape in the UK, notably The Franchise Tag Podcast, to showcase the biggest event for the league overseas so far in 2023.

The sport continues to grow internationally, and we can’t wait to see what else is to come for the remainder of the series.
