AFC FEast: Jets Cook-ing something special following their latest signing

Three-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook has signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets in a significant deal worth up to £8.6 million.

The former Minnesota Viking had been heavily linked with a move to East Rutherford, having met with the Jets in July, and has finally sealed his move to aid New York’s championship contending credentials.

Cook, 28, may have been a free agent for more than two months, and coming off the back of a decline in 2022, but he’s still providing the Jets with one of the top back options in the game. He’ll head to his new team with a string of four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, much needed given that New York hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Chris Ivory in 2015.

Cook’s entry into the Jets’ roster bolsters their already well-stocked running back department, which includes the returning Breece Hall and Michael Carter. The Jets also welcomed rookie Israel Abanikada via this year’s draft and have second-year player Zonovan “Bam” Knight. Undrafted free agent Travis Dye from Oregon has also been signed.

There will be competition for places, but the signing of a player with the pedigree of Cook is a huge boost to the Jets’ chances in 2023.
