NFL free agency: Garoppolo joins Raiders as frenzy begins

The annual NFL free agency frenzy got under way on Monday, with Jimmy Garoppolo’s mega deal to the Las Vegas Raiders headlining the moves.

Garoppolo joins on a three-year deal worth $67.5million, and reunites with head coach Josh McDaniels’, having worked together in New England between 2014-2016.

Former Eagles Defensive Tackle Javon Hargrave has signed a huge four-year contract with the 49ers, worth over $84million in the biggest deal of the day, while Broncos tied down offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey from San Francisco, for a five-year, $87.5million transfer.

Former Jaguars’ OT Jawaan Taylor reached agreement on a four-year, $80 million deal, including $60M guaranteed, with the KC Chiefs and the Bears tied down linebacker TJ Edwards.

Elsewhere, the Ravens have cut veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell, the Patriots traded tight end Jonnu Smith to the Falcons for a 7th-round pick and Lions gave former Steelers CB Cameron Sutton a three-year deal. DT Shy Tuttle has also agreed terms to a move to the Carolina Panthers.

Two backup QBs who were given starting opportunities in 2022 got new deals with new teams, as Mike White joins the Dolphins and Jarrett Stidham transfers to the Broncos. Case Keenum has also joined the Houston Texans.

With free agency officially beginning on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. PT, expect more blockbuster deals this week.
