Pete Carroll will end his tenure as the long-serving head coach of the Seattle Seahawks and move into an advisory role with the team, owner Jody Allen announced Wednesday.

It comes just days after Carroll, who has been the Seahawks head coach since 2010 and led the team to a Super Bowl title in the 2013, said that he had intended to return as coach for the 2024 season.

In a statement, Allen said that the decision was made “after thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise.”

The head coaching charge comes following a number of high-profile departures in recent days, with Arthur Smith, Ron Rivera and Mike Vrabel all losing their respective positions after the season end.

According to multiple sources, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn would likely be the strongest candidate to replace Carroll. Quinn worked with the Seahawks in 2009-10 and then in 2013-14.
