Ravens franchise tag Lamar Jackson
The Baltimore Ravens have placed the franchise tag on star quarterback Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens have placed Jackson on the non-exclusive tag, which will see the QB earn $32.41 million in 2023. The non-exclusive element of the tag means Jackson can now negotiate with other teams, but Baltimore is free to match any offer he signs or take two first-round picks in return for him.
If the Ravens had put the exclusive tag on Jackson, it would have guaranteed him a salary of $45 million for the 2023 season, and would have prevented other teams from signing him.
The move adds a real possibility that Jackson won’t remain in Baltimore and will be traded this offseason. The former Heisman winner is about to hit the open market, and he may be playing elsewhere this year.
