It has been a really successful return for the XFL in its first season back for 2023. Under new management, the league has been transformed, with television ratings and fan attendance being positive, while the standard of play has certainly exceeded expectations. And with the success of the league, former NFL players are looking towards the XFL and seemingly to give the league a try.

This has happened recently with former Pro Baller running back Phillip Lindsay joining the Seattle Sea Dragons, following his release by the Indianapolis Colts. In fact, there is now a host of former NFL talent now lining up for XFL teams.

There could be many more players make the move in the coming years, so here are some quarterbacks who could be thinking it’s a good idea:

Teddy Bridgewater

Bridgewater has had somewhat of a roller coaster ride in the NFL. Drafted in 2014 by the Minnesota Vikings with the last pick of the first round, and looked to be a very promising young quarterback when he led his franchise the playoffs in the 2015 season.

But a nasty leg injury in 2016 halted the progression of the Miami native and coming back, he never looked the same. Bouncing around the league playing for teams like the Saints, Panthers, Broncos, and Dolphins, Bridgewater has been backup for the majority of his NFL career and has never nailed down a starting position.

At this moment in time, Bridgewater has not been signed to a team for the 2023 season, hich leaves the door open for a potential move to the XFL. Bridgewater has got the pedigree to jump into any set up and thrive in the league with the ability to drastically improve a team.

Cam Newton

The former MVP has left a great legacy in the NFL. Newton was known for his incredible ability to rush with the football with the Panthers in 2011, where he enjoyed an immense amount of success.

He took Carolina to Super Bowl 50, where they unfortunately came up short to the Broncos, but he did win the league’s best player award for that year. He was truly one of the best quarterbacks of his generation while with the Panthers.

Newton then joined the New England Patriots, the last time he would be a full-time starter, sadly over recent years you can see a decline in his performance. He argues that he is still better than some starting quarterbacks in the league today, and while that may be true, perhaps it is time to move on for a new venture.

The XFL could be appealing albeit a step down for Newton.  He would become the face of the league and would demand a big paycheque, while also get a large amount of playing time.

From a XFL team’s perspective Newton is a huge name in the sport, and would draw a lot of attention to the franchise who signs him.

Jameis Winston

The 29-year-old has been a productive, yet inconsistent player during his years in the NFL.

Winston threw for over 4,000 yards most seasons with the Buccaneers, but was released by the team when Tom Brady was brought in. He struggled with injury while with the Saints and yet again finds himself as a free agent, with New Orleans having secured Derek Carr to be their starting QB.

Winston has an incredible raw ability to throw the football which hasn’t materialised as a pro, but could do if he takes a step back. Joining a XFL team could give him the platform to showcase his talent, and at 29, there is everyone chance he could use the league to bounce back to the NFL.
