Top 5 offensive line units in the NFL in 2023

It’s one of the most important positions in football. If you don’t have quality at offensive line, then your team’s success is going to be seriously limited. With five starting spots up for grabs, it also forms the focus of a lot of offseason maneuvering and additions for teams between trades, free agency and the draft.

With changes a plenty for teams this offseason, offensive line rankings have certainly been impacted. Here’s our list heading into 2023:

5. Kansas City Chiefs

Best player: Creed Humphrey

For the second time in as many years, the Chiefs have gone through a major rebuild of their offensive line, with an overhaul of the tackle positions. Veteran Donovan Smith comes into replace Orlando Brown Jr., while the addition of Jawaan Taylor from the Jacksonville Jaguars presents a big upgrade at right tackle.

There is huge talent in the interior, Creed Humphrey is one of the best players in his position so early into his career, Trey Smith was a brilliant late-round draft pick-up in 2021 and Joe Thuney has a wealth of experience for the team to lean on. The new players added will slot in perfectly to fill the void, so expect the Chiefs to have another dominant unit in 2023.

4. Baltimore Ravens

Best player: Ronnie Stanley

If the Ravens are going to have any success in the postseason this year, it’s going to heavily dependant on how the offensive line performs. This line might not be as star studded as overs on this list, but they certainly work well as an dependable unit.

Having just conceded 24 penalties in 2022, this was the least penalised offensive line in football during the regular season. Another well-disciplined year is just what the team needs in 2023.

3. Atlanta Falcons

Best player: Chris Lindstrom

Atlanta‘s offensive line does what is asked of them to a very high level. Arthur Smith is a run-heavy coach, and with the exceptional prospect of Bijan Robinson now at running back, it must be pleasing to have such a solid O-Line to find those running holes.

They’ve sorted their biggest issue with the drafting of Matthew Bergeron at left guard, while Kaleb McGary has been brought back after proving to be a valuable player last year. And having tied down Chris Lindstrom this spring, possibly the best player on the roster, the future is bright for Atlanta’s O-Line ahead of the new season.

2. Cleveland Browns

Best player: Joel Bitonio

If Deshaun Watson struggles in year two of his career in Cleveland, it’s unlikely to be because of the men protecting him upfront. With great depth and a formidable starting five, the Browns need to get back to their usual dominance in 2023, with all the pieces there pointing towards success.

Bitonio and Teller are right up there as the best guard combination in the league, while Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin are two elite level tackles. And with Bill Callahan coaching, this line will continue to prove it is one of the best.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

Best player: Lane Johnson

No doubt about it, on paper, the Eagles remain the best and most stacked team on offensive line. Outstanding at both pass and run blocking, Philadelphia has repaired after some minor changes this offseason

Lane Johnson remains the best tackle in football, while the rest of the unit is packed full of quality and experience. Jalen Hurts’ development took a major step in 2022, and this O-Line is one of the primary reasons why he is now considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
