3 Quarterbacks the NY Jets could target

The Jets are coming off a very successful season considering where they finished last year.

With two players fighting for rookies of the year in CB Sauce Gardner and WR Garrett Wilson the future looks very bright.

The missing piece for the Jets in 2022 was a competent quarterback. With a carousel of QBs in Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco it wasn’t enough to bring them to the playoffs.

This article will cover the top three candidates the Jets could get this offseason.

Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers

In the wake of a disappointing 8-9 record, Green Bay is rumored to be moving on from Rodgers this offseason.

“It sounds like there’s already conversations going on that aren’t involving me, which is pretty interesting,” said Rodgers on the Pat McAfee Show. Still, Rodgers finished 11th in passing yards and 7th in touchdowns.

The Jets recently hired Nathaniel Hackett to be their new offensive coordinator. He was Rodgers’s OC for three years in Green Bay.

It’s common knowledge that Rodgers is very fond of Hackett making Rodgers to the Jets a very real possibility.

If traded the Jets would be responsible for $15.8 million in 2023 and $32.5 million in 2024 of Rodgers contract. To get Rodgers, the Jets would have to give up at least a first-round pick. They need to go all in this year.

Derek Carr

Las Vegas Raiders

In week 17 of this previous season, the Raiders made the decision to bench long-time franchise QB Derek Carr.

Although Carr did not have an amazing season he put up respectable numbers. Even without playing the final two weeks, he finished 14th in passing yards and 12th in touchdowns.

The Raiders are very open to a trade for Carr. If they can’t find a trade partner the belief is they’ll cut him. Carr’s cap hit in 2023, 2024, and 2025 would be $32.9 million, $41.9 million, and $41.2 million, respectively.

The expected trade compensation for Carr is unknown but we could see one similar to what the Commanders gave for Alex Smith.

Jimmy Garoppolo

San Francisco 49ers

With a potential QB battle between Trey lance and Brock Purdy, Jimmy G has seen his last snap as a 49er.

“No, I don’t see any scenario of that,” Kyle Shanahan said, via video from the team when asked about Garoppolo returning.

In 2022, Garoppolo missed most of the season due to injury. However, in 2021 he had 3810 passing yards to go along with 20 touchdowns. He may have the least upside out of the three options but he is also the one who you give up the least to get.

No picks or players will have to be traded because he is set to hit free agency this offseason. Spotrac projects a deal worth $37.5 million a year for him.
