5 players snubbed from the 2024 Pro Bowl
The results for the 2023 Pro Bowl are in and like every year, a number of players have been left feeling dazed and confused as to why they haven’t been selected.
I’m going to take you through five players who have been given a little extra fuel for next season.
1. Amon-Ra St. Brown
The Detroit Lions WR has already made it known that he is shocked at not being selected into the NFC’s Pro Bowl team. St. Brown is the leading man when it comes to the Lions passing game and he is entering the final week of the season with career bests in many categories.
Over 1300 yards, well over 100 catches and every reason to feel disgruntled. Since he entered the league he has been nothing short of fantastic and consistent. If you take him out of the Lions team, they are dramatically weakened and I would expect him to have another stellar campaign next season, possibly another career best on the numbers front.
2. Antoine Winfield Jr.
The Buccaneers safety is a real head scratcher. He has been one of the stars on the Tampa team all year and his numbers don’t lie. He has put together a career high in tackles, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, passes defended and sacks.
Cementing that when the off season comes, he will be able to cash in on a massive contract. The Bucs can clinch their division and their ticket to the playoffs this weekend, if that happens the star safety will 100% have had a monstrous impact on their success this season. This snub will likely be remembered for a while as one of the most shocking and surprising.
When someone plays at that high a level all season long, you just expect that they have done more than enough, but not in this case.
3. Geno Stone
The Ravens safety has well and truly announced himself as a star this season.
The former seventh-round selection has certainly been playing at the standard of someone who deserves to be a pro bowler, but for one reason or another he isn’t on the team. When you look at pieces that make this Ravens defense so dominant, one of the first names you say is Stone. He is mentioned endlessly during their games and his stats only back up that his performances this year are worthy of being in that AFC team.
A Super Bowl ring might ease that pain and certainly isn’t out of the question.
4. Brandon Aiyuk
One of my favourite wide receivers to watch and one of the reasons that Brock Purdy is having so much success. Aiyuk may not receive the love he deserves because the 49ers have an endless amount of star power, making it all too easy to overlook his impressive play this season.
If you look back at the 49ers games this season and you look at some of the big moments, it’s been Aiyuk time and time again who has produced the goods. He doesn’t get as many targets as some of the other star receivers in the league, but look at how productive he is. He is as talented as they come and he has done more than enough to warrant a Pro Bowl spot. This is someone who will use this snub as motivation and it will propel him to an even more impressive season later this year.
5. Jordan Love
He might not be one of the most notable names left off the list, but from my standpoint, Jordan Love has together an impressive season considering that the Packers just need to win their season finale to gain a playoff spot.
Love has really stepped up in his first season as the starter in Green Bay and notably in some games he has shown star quality. He has improved his team mates and has shown that he can carry on the mantle of QB’s in Green Bay.
As the season has progressed Love has shown himself to be capable of being one of the best QB’s in the league. I’d love to see him take this snub and step up again next season on a consistent basis, that would make it really hard for him to not be a pro bowl quarterback next season.
The Pro Bowl always brings up some surprises, but the simple fact of the matter is there is so much talent in the league currently and there isn’t enough space to include everyone. If you include everyone who was snubbed, you would still have many other players who would have felt overlooked. These players are five that I thought made a strong enough case to get a spot, a few of the selections will be wondering what they actually need to do to earn a spot.
