NFL Draft 2025: Cam Ward now solidified #1 pick after impressive pro day?

We’re well into draft season, and with under a month to go until one of the biggest events in the NFL calendar, speculation and rumour is a taking over when it comes to the picks teams are expected to make.
With many seemingly underwhelmed by this year’s QB class, it had been widely anticipated that we’d see a non-quarterback taken first overall. But, after an impressive pro day, the widespread expectation is now that QB Cam Ward will be the No. 1 overall pick in April.
Staring at the University of Miami campus this week, Ward seemed to mark a significant step at his pro day towards landing with the Tennessee Titans, who hold the top selection in next month’s NFL Draft, and it brought the biggest contingent to a highly anticipated event that all 32 teams attended.
The workout started with 25 straight completions. Unofficially, Ward completed 54 of 62 passes to receivers running routes out of varying formations. He took snaps from shotgun and under center, and he showed off his arm strength while also mixing in some sidearm throws. The throwing session saw standout plays throughout, with a pass to tight end Elijah Arroyo while rolling out to his left among the highlights to an entertaining day.
After the session had ended, he shared a moment of celebration with the five Miami teammates who caught his passes in front of nearly 100 NFL personnel. Then, next on the field to meet Ward were Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi, president of football operations Chad Brinker and assistant general manager Dave Ziegler. After one especially impressive throw during the workout, Ward pointed to Brinker and Borgonzi, who watched closely first from behind Ward, then later from the sideline for the red zone portion.
No doubt after that, we now know how Ward feels the Titans should view him; “They finally got to see me throw in person. That should be all they need to see,” the young QB said, following the session. “At the end of the day, if they want to give me the pick or not, I’m going to be happy with whatever team I go to. I just want to play football.”
The Cleveland Browns, who hold the No. 2 pick, were represented in Miami by their assistant general manager Glenn Cook, while New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen took the opportunity to speak with Ward for a couple of minutes during the earlier parts of the workout. The Giants hold the third selection of April’s draft and, like their rivals at the top of the draft order, are in need of an upgrade at quarterback.
Ward said he’s enjoyed meeting coaches and executives from around the NFL, as he talks through offensive concepts with interested teams. He did little to hide his interest or intent to go atop the draft to Tennessee, but Ward said, “I don’t do the drafting” and joked he saw “a couple hopefuls” among the crowd of NFL onlookers Monday.
The Titans hold the keys and may still be willing to talk about a potential trade if the Browns, Giants or some other team want to package a bunch of picks and move up to select the prospect. But Ward’s impressive display and just the presence of Tennessee has left the impression that draft intrigue will now start with Cleveland at No. 2.
