Colts fire head coach Frank Reich after poor start to season
The Frank Reich era in Indianapolis has come to an end, with the Colts firing their head coach on Monday.
The sacking is little surprise to many NFL fans, coming just a day after the Colts were thrashed 26-3 by the New England Patriots, which dropped the team to a poor 3-5-1 record on the season.
During the game, quarterback Sam Ehlinger was sacked nine times and restricted to just 103 yards through the air. The performance proved to be the unfortunate nail in the coffin for Reich.
Indianapolis have struggled so far during 2022. Despite having moved for Matt Ryan the past offseason, the Colts offense has failed to live up to expectations. Poor quarterback play, coupled with a weak offensive line and a depleted run-game with Jonathan Taylor out injured, has the led the squad to ranking dead last in the league in scoring, with just 14.7 points per game.
Earlier in November, the Colts relieved offensive coordinator Marcus Brady of his duties following the loss to the Washington Commanders.
Reich, who was hired in 2018 after helping the Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl LII as offensive coordinator, becomes the second NFL head coach to lose his job this season, following Matt Rhule’s dismissal in October.
He finishes his career with the Colts with a 40-33-1 record.
