Frank Reich named new Carolina Panthers Head Coach

The Carolina Panthers have hired Frank Reich to become their new head coach.

Reich, who quarterbacked the Panthers during their inaugural NFL season in 1995, returns to the league after being fired by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2022 season. He becomes the Panthers sixth head coach in franchise history and takes over from Steve Wilks, who had been in charge since Matt Rhule’s dismissal last year.

Despite helping to build a talented roster in Indianapolis, Reich had some unfortunate luck at quarterback. Andrew Luck unexpectedly retired ahead of the 2019 season, which sent Indy into a spiral of stop gap quarterbacks including Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan.

Likewise for Carolina, they’ve struggled since Cam Newton left, with Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield unable to solve the QB problem.

Reich and the Panthers will be getting another new QB this offseason, one which both will be desperately hoping sticks around in Charlotte.
