NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract extended through to March 2027
The Compensation Committee updated the full ownership today that an agreement has been reached to extend NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract for three years, through to March 2027.
Terms of the deal aren’t known yet, and they’re not required to be disclosed, but the new contract means Goodell, who got the job in 2006, will end up running the league for more than 20 years.
This will be Goodell’s fourth extension, following re-ups in 2009, 2012 and 2017. Many believe this will be the 64-year-old’s final deal with the NFL, but questions still remain on who will succeed Goodell once he steps down.
Goodell’s tenure as Commissioner has been marked by an emphasis on global expansion, highlighted by the introduction of the NFL International Series in 2007, and efforts through a 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, in which no games were cancelled.
