NFL free agency: Lazard to join Jets as Raiders add Meyers
Day two of the NFL free agency frenzy and despite no confirmation of Aaron Rodgers’ future amid trade talk of a move to the Jets, New York will be adding long time target Allen Lazard to their roster. During their five seasons together in Green Bay, Allen Lazard caught 168 passes for 2,216 yards and 19 touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers.
It was a better day all round for wide receivers, as former Patriots wideout Jakobi Meyers sealed a 3-year deal worth $33 million to the Las Vegas Raiders. Meyers, known for this unforgettable moment against the Raiders last year, hit 804 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2022.
However, Meyers deal is considerably lower than that of Christian Kirk’s mammoth deal to the Jaguars in 2022, and is much smaller than many were expecting him to receive.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Taylor Heinicke found himself a new home with the Atlanta Falcons, Raheem Mostert signed a new contract to stay with the Dolphins, and the Buccaneers traded guard Shaq Mason to Texans.
Overnight, we saw the Colts give biggest ever deal for a kicker in free agency to Matt Gay, who signed to a four-year, $22.5 million deal in Indianapolis. Nate Davis added to the O-Line bolstering mission for Chicago, safety Vonn Bell signed with the Panthers and former Cardinals’ defensive end Zach Allen reached agreement on a three-year, $45.75 million deal with the Broncos.
There were also moves for the Browns who are signing former Vikings defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, and Texans, who snapped up star safety Jimmie Ward from the 49ers.
With free agency officially beginning on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. PT, deals will continue to come thick and fast over the course of the week.
