NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Picks 32-102
Following on from James Fallows’ entertaining Round One mock draft, I’m into the hot seat for the GM roles of the 32 NFL teams as we move onto day two of the 2023 NFL Draft.
James’ picks were full of surprises, but the deeper we go, the more difficult it is to predict. The later rounds are full of stud players and teams will be out to get a steal.
Here is our our first mock of round two and round three:
Round Two
32. Pittsburgh Steelers – Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
33. Houston Texans – Will McDonald IV, EDGE, Iowa State
34. Arizona Cardinals – Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina
35. Indianapolis Colts – Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU
36. Los Angeles Rams – BJ Ojulari, EDGE, LSU
For the Rams first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, LA add a premium edge to give the team a reinforcement in the pass rush for the new season. Ojulari had 16.5 sacks in three seasons at LSU, and while he doesn’t have elite size, his speed and burst should translate to becoming a solid NFL starter.
37. Seattle Seahawks – Keion White, EDGE, Georgia Tech
38. Las Vegas Raiders – Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State
39. Carolina Panthers – Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College
40. New Orleans Saints – Felix Anudike-Uzomah, EDGE, Kansas State
41. Tennessee Titans – Joe Tippmann, C, Wisconsin
The Titans need to start bolstering a weakened offensive line after this offseason, and adding Wisconsin’s Joe Tippmann would be a good start. Aaron Brewer is the current starter at center, but the strong and physical Tippman would jump straight into the lineup.
42. Green Bay Packers – Adetomiwa Adebawore, EDGE, Northwestern
43. New York Jets – Keeanu Benton, DI, Wisonsin
44. Atlanta Falcons – Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina
45. Green Bay Packers – Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
Winner of the 2022 Biletnikoff Award, Jalin Hyatt would be a dream asset for the new era in Green Bay under Jordan Love. Teaming up with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, and of course the mock first-round pass catching tight end in Dalton Kincaid, would give Green Bay a legitimate receiving room which can compete and support a young QB.
46. New England Patriots – Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee
47. Washington Commanders – Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
48. Detroit Lions – Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa
After giving up TJ Hockenson to the Vikings last year, the Lions with be eyeing a talent replacement in the draft. LaPorta is certainly that for the later rounds, He dominates option routes and can box out defenders. He needs to add blocking skills, but he has high-ceiling to go far in the NFL.
49. Pittsburgh Steelers – DJ Turner, CB, Michigan
50. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Drew Sanders, LB, Arkansas
The best overall linebacker available this year, Sanders is coming off a 9.5 sack season and is an incredibly mobile athlete for his size. The Bucs benefit from Sanders falling (I was tempted to select him with the very first pick of this round) and he will become the latest star LB to head to Tampa Bay.
51. Miami Dolphins – Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon State
52. Seattle Seahawks – Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee
52. Seattle Seahawks – Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee
The Seahawks have hit the jackpot with the Tennessee QB falling to 52. Injury and age concerns could put people off, but Hendon Hooker is genuinely one of the best quarterbacks available this year. Geno Smith is the starter in Seattle after an excellent 2022, but Hooker could excel for the Seahawks in years to come.
53. Chicago Bears – Tuli Tuipulotu, EDGE, USC
54. Los Angeles Chargers – Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa
55. Detroit Lions – Jonathan Mingo, WR, Mississippi
56. Jacksonville Jaguars – Tyler Kraft, TE, South Dakota State
57. New York Giants – John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota
58. Dallas Cowboys – Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami
Dallas traded for Stephon Gilmore this offseason, but they still seem a bit light at corner. The talented Stevenson had the best Senior Bowl week of any cornerback, and he is a physical and menacing press-coverage man. He could turn out to be a good pickup for the Cowboys.
59. Buffalo Bills – Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State
60. Cincinnati Bengals – Zach Charbonnet, HB, UCLA
Joe Mixon’s future is up in the air, so taking a running back could be a sensible option. After Robinson and Gibbs, Charbonnet is arguably the third best back available this year. A heavily used back during college, the UCLA talent rushed for nearly 2,500 yards while finding the endzone 27 times in just two years. He could make for a decent NFL starter.
61. Chicago Bears – Garrett Williams, CB, Syracuse
62. Philadelphia Eagles – Steve Avila, G, TCU
63. Kansas City Chiefs – Rashee Rice, WR, SMU
Round Three
64. Chicago Bears – Derick Hall, EDGE, Auburn
65. Houston Texans – Zacch Pickens, DI, South Carolina
66. Arizona Cardinals – Devon Achane, HB, Texas A&M
67. Denver Broncos – Luke Wypler, C, Ohio State
68. Denver Broncos – Zach Harrison, EDGE, Ohio State
69. Los Angeles Rams – Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M
70. Las Vegas Raiders – Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan
71. New Orleans Saints – Tyler Scott, WR, Cincinnati
72. Tennessee Titans – Nathaniel Dell, WR, Houston
The undersized ‘Tank’ Dell could be a brilliant addition for the Titans offense. A valiant route runner with explosive speed, big-play ability, but his trickery and electric feet are his most precious asset. He can become the number one receiver in Tennessee, who need desperate help at WR.
73. Houston Texans – Tyjae Spears, HB, Tulane
74. Cleveland Browns – Jordan Battle, S, Alabama
75. Atlanta Falcons – Chandler Zavala, G, North Carolina State
76. New England Patriots – Clark Phillips III, CB, Utah
77. Los Angeles Rams – Tank Bigsby, HB, Auburn
78. Green Bay Packers – Sydney Brown, S, Illinois
79. Indianapolis Colts – Cody Mauch, T, North Dakota State
80. Pittsburgh Steelers – Matthew Bergeron, T, Syracuse
81. Detroit Lions – Blake Freeland, T, BYU
82. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DeWayne McBridge, HB, UAB
83. Seattle Seahawks – Siaki Ika, DI, Baylor
The Seahawks continue to have yet another excellent draft, and add a start-level talent at nose tackle in the third round. Despite not testing too well, Ika flashes Vita Vea-like upside, with strong, nimble feet to beat even the best offensive linemen.
84. Miami Dolphins – Nick Herbig, EDGE, Wisconsin
85. Los Angeles Chargers – Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma
86. Baltimore Ravens – Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, Notre Dame
87. Minnesota Vikings – Daiyan Henley, LB, Washington State
88. Jacksonville Jaguars – Isaiah McGuire, EDGE, Missouri
89. New York Giants – Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State
The Giants need some weapons for Brian Daboll/Mike Kafka offense to excel in 2023 and take Daniel Jones to the next level. Reed scored 26 TDs over four years in Michigan State, and having ran a 4.4 at the Combine, his speed is certainly eye-catching. His versatility and punt return ability are bonus traits.
90. Dallas Cowboys – Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson
91. Buffalo Bills – Nick Saldiveri, T, Old Dominion
92. Cincinnati Bengals – Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina
93. Carolina Panthers – Byron Young, EDGE, Tennessee
94. Philadelphia Eagles – Kendre Miller, HB, TCU
95. Kansas City Chiefs – Jaelyn Duncan, T, Maryland
96. Arizona Cardinals – Ji’Ayir Brown, Penn State
With Budda Baker requesting a trade, the Cardinals need to replace their best defender with a versatile player like Brown. Brown had 10 interceptions over the past two seasons, is a solid tackler and can cover in the slot and other roles in the secondary.
97. Washington Commanders – Carter Warren, T, Pittsburgh
98. Cleveland Browns – YaYa Diaby, EDGE, Louisville
99. San Francisco 49ers – Tyler Steen, OT, Alabama
The 49ers have a position of need at right tackle, and Steen would be a great pickup with their first selection in this year’s draft. Steen may have played primarily at left tackle during his time in college, but has experience on right. And with quick feet and toughness, he will be a solid player in the NFL.
100. Las Vegas Raiders – Kobie Turner, DI, Wake Forest
101. San Francisco 49ers – Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB, TCU
102. San Francisco 49ers – Brenton Strange, TE, Penn State
