offGrid NFL and The Franchise Tag Podcast, growing the NFL together in the UK

The London Games may be over for another year, but it feels like the NFL has never been bigger overseas than it is today.

With a record three fixtures taking place in the British capital in 2022, fans from across the UK got to experience first-hand the brilliance and drama on the league in the flesh.

Considering the progressive success of the games, there is a growing possibility about a franchise re-locating permanently to the British capital.

Whether or not that comes to fruition in the coming years, there is no doubt that the game is continuing to grow in the UK.

We at offGrid NFL are working hard with its partners to draw new fans into the sport from across the country and afar. We are delighted to be in partnership with The Franchise Tag Podcast, together working within a community of NFL fans and commentators to raise the profile of the league across the pond.

Born in 2019, The Franchise Tag has gone from a conversation between friends to being one of the most recognisable British based NFL podcasts.

Formed over a pint in a pub between some friends, the Franchise Tag Podcast attracts listeners and fans from across the country and beyond. And with episodes focusing on fantasy football, summarising the teams and even content on the XFL, there is something for everyone either obsessed with American Football or just keen to learn more about the game.

Freddie Hall is Co-Founder of The Franchise Tag and has been leading the progression of the podcast since its inception. Freddie, an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, is an ever-present host on The Franchise Tag Podcast episodes, having wanted to make his mark in the industry three years ago.

“I wanted to break into the industry as I loved watching and listening to American NFL podcasts but didn’t much listen to any UK versions”, he said, on why he decided to start the podcast.

”I asked my friend Dan Parker, who I knew was a talented editor and designer if he would partner on it and the podcast just started from there. He was as passionate about the NFL as me, so it was a perfect partnership. We were so passionate about bringing a fresh take to the NFL from the UK.

Freddie, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, admits the rise of the podcast has been a challenge. However, with seven contributors now part of the team and each episode of the podcast hitting thousands of streams, the Franchise Tag has become the podcast to listen to for all things NFL.

“I never believed that it would be as big as it is now and I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to build. From doing episode of the podcast on my own with a blanket over my head to cancel out the sound, to now having a full-fledged team of fantastic sports journalists and a trio of successful shows is a dream come true. It really has taken my love of NFL to a whole new level.

“The Franchise Tag Podcast is thrilled to be working alongside offGrid NFL, producing content together and encouraging more people to follow the NFL. We hope our partnership can push the British fan base to new levels in the years to come.”
