Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on field during a Monday Night Football fixture against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin was taken to hospital at 9:25pm local time after receiving medical attention, after collapsing following to a collision during the first quarter of the match.

The game, which was taking place in Cincinnati, was suspended as medical staff quickly attended to him and administered CPR, with players from both teams visibly distraught.

As Hamlin was taken in an ambulance, Bills head coach Sean McDermott led his team in prayer before players from both teams headed to the locker rooms. The NFL later announced the game had been postponed.

“Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.

“He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

“Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”

On Tuesday morning, The Bills confirmed that Hamlin had suffered a cardiac arrest and was in critical condition.
