Ranking the four remaining quarterbacks in the NFL playoffs
The conference championship games of the NFL playoffs are finally here. We’re just a couple of games away from the fixture in sport, with the biggest stars in football taking to the stage once again.
With no Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers at this stage for the first time in an eternity, the emphasise is well and truly on the youthful remaining quarterbacks, who have taken the league by storm over the last 12 months. All four players have excelled during the 2022 season and should continue to dominate for years to come.
Here is a ranking list of the QBs left in the competition:
4. Brock Purdy, 49ers
One of the storylines of the season, Brock Purdy has taken the NFL by storm during the 2022 campaign. Coming in as a third string quarterback to win 10 straight is an unbelievable player, let alone one taken with the very last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Mr Irrelevant has done more than silence his doubters and has benefited tremendously from being surrounded by an excellent coaching and an elite group of offensive weapons in San Francisco.
He might not yet have the explosive and obvious talent of his peers, but Purdy could be at the start of a very successful career in the NFL.
3. Jalen Hurts, Eagles
It seems incredible that some were even arguing that Jalen Hurts wasn’t the long-term solution for the Eagles at quarterback at the start of the year.
The former Alabama and Oklahoma star has been excellent in 2022, and despite being hampered by a shoulder sprain, he’s continued to shine into the postseason.
The Eagles have a brilliant roster, possibly the best offensive line unit in the league and a squad littered with superstars on both sides of the ball. Hurts definitely has a lot of help, but he has been the star of the show for the Eagles in 2022.
2. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs
Mahomes has had another outrageous season to his incredible career so far with the Kansas City Chiefs. After leading the NFL this season in passing yards (5,250) and passing touchdowns (41), as well as helping the Chiefs to the AFC’s top seed, Mahomes appears set to win his second NFL MVP award.
At 27, Mahomes may be the oldest member of this group. But to appear in a fifth straight AFC Championship Game at his age is an unbelievable achievement.
Not doubt Mahomes has been the star quarterback of the NFL this year. However, following an ankle injury against the Jaguars, there are doubts on what type of player we get to see against the Bengals. Will he be fully fit. Who knows. Regardless, Mahomes will be out there no matter what, giving all he’s got to help his team win another Super Bowl.
1. Joe Burrow, Bengals
There might not be a player in better form right now than Joe Burrow.
Disregarding a slow start to the season for the Bengals, Burrow should be a frontrunner for the MVP award this season. He received PFF’s top passing grade (100.8) and has pushed his team to new lengths, winning 10 games straight following Cincinnati’s dominant victory of the Buffalo Bills last week.
Whether the Bengals return to the Super Bowl or not, Burrow has well and truly cemented his place as one of if not the best quarterback in the entire NFL.
