Ron Rivera sacked as Commanders head coach

Veteran NFL coach Ron Rivera has been fired from his role at the Washington Commanders, following a miserable 4-13 season.

The Commanders finished the season with a 38-10 loss to Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, rounding out a dismal campaign where Sam Howell struggled and the defense proved to be woeful. General Manager Martin Mayhew is also expected to depart.

Rivera, who turned 62 on Sunday, leaves after four seasons, having taken charge in 2020, a year after leaving the Carolina Panthers.

As Black Monday continues, the Commanders have hired two-time NBA Executive of the Year Bob Myers – the man credited with orchestrating the Warriors dominance – to run the franchise, according to Ian Rapoport on Monday morning. Former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman is also joining to help hire replacements.
