Trust the old boys: Two receivers going above and beyond
Like that old hoodie you just can’t let go of, like a warm fire on a winter’s night, like 2 top tier wide receivers catching endless targets for TDs each week, you sometimes pine for the creature’s comforts as we go deeper into the NFL season.
Keenan Allen and Mike Evans are becoming a source of comfort each week for fantasy managers around the globe and lucky for me I own both in the offGrid league.
These two show no signs of aging, Allen has four 100+ yard games with one of them being over 200 yards in week 3 vs the Vikings. Evans isn’t doing half bad either with 780 yards through 11 weeks, with both players catching 7 TDs each already on the year.
Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Many would have allowed Evans a slump given the quarterback play we expected to see in Tampa Bay this year, but with Baker Mayfield et al proving the doubters wrong we could see Evans catching TDs in the playoff given the Bucs are still in contention in a frantic NFC playoff picture. With their toughest matchup out of the way having lost to the 49ers on Sunday, I look forward to a hot cup of Mike Evans to indulge in for another few weeks to come.
Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers
While the Buccaneers may be sailing closer to the playoffs, it is safe to say despite having the same record (4-6) that the Chargers are rowing against the tide to clinch a spot in the AFC. Allen is seemingly prospering in spite of some woeful coaching out in LA.
There is no doubt this squad is not where it wants to be, the highest paid defense in the league, and a dynamic young quarterback that is having to do far too much in the pursuit of victory each week.
I like the upside for fantasy teams with Allen being the go-to guy but I fear Chargers fans won’t be finding too much comfort with their team for the foreseeable. Tough contests with Baltimore, Denver, Buffalo and Kansas City to come lead me to think it could get worse before it gets better.
