Lamar Jackson settles contract dispute with Ravens to become highest paid NFL player
Following an offseason of contractual chaos, Lamar Jackson has agreed a new five-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens to make him the highest paid player in NFL history.
After being placed on the franchise tag and having handed in a transfer request in recent months, Jackson’s deal is worth $260 million over five years, with $185 million guaranteed and around $52 million annually, eclipsing Jalen Hurts‘ new contract which he signed earlier in April.
The news comes a month after the former league MVP had requested a trade after the two sides once again could not come to terms on a new contract. Speculation was still floating around that Jackson could be traded on or before the draft, but that has now ended.
The 2018 first-round pick has been a star since taking over as the Baltimore starter midway through his rookie campaign. In his first full season under center, Jackson won the NFL MVP, earning a league-high 36 TD passes while throwing for 3,127 yards and rushing for another 1,206 yards and seven scores.
He will be hoping to push his game to new heights in 2023.
