NFL Week 12 Star Performers
A week where the schedule didn’t look like it would offer much but delivered some excellent games – especially in the early Sunday window. But who were the stand-outs? Read on, reader!
Trevor Lawrence
QB, Jacksonville Jaguars, W 28-27 vs Ravens
Lawrence didn’t have a perfect game but his game winning drive and two-point conversion (which cost me a bunch of money on my accumulator) was absolutely superb. Showing the kind of progression we’d be hoping to see from the year two signal caller.
He took a few hits and fumbled once but I’ll forgive that for watching the Samson-haired Clemson superstar tear up the Ravens in another ignominious defeat from a strong winning position. Shout out to Mike White for another impressive stand-in performance against a dreadful Chicago team that look completely toothless without Justin Fields.
Josh Jacobs
RB, Las Vegas Raiders, OT/W 40-34 @ Seahawks
33 attempts for 229 yards at an average of 6.9 yds per attempt and a couple of touchdowns. Jacobs is over 100 yards ahead of his nearest rival in the yardage total for the season helped, in part, by the superb 86-yard winning rip in overtime. I just want to see more of what this guy can do.
Can McDaniels unlock the 2019 first rounder like this on a regular basis? It might help Derek Carr out if he knew he had a crutch to go to.
Tee Higgins
WR, Cincinnati Bengals, W20-16 @ Titans
Seven receptions for 114 yards and a score aren’t exactly headline making figures but it was the manner of his catches combined with the fact that he did this without having Jamarr Chase on the opposite side of the pitch attracting cornerback attention that caught my eye.
Chase is trending towards a Week 13 return and the Bengals have managed well without him. They could be in for a solid play-off push if both these guys are firing full throttle.
A week to forget for… The Saints offense
Why pick one player when you can pick half a team? The Saints under Dennis Allen have failed to impress offensively throughout the year so far. They deserve to be no better than their 4 – 8 record. Two lost fumbles from Kamara who couldn’t break 2 years per attempt, sack city for Dalton and the O-Line and the receivers were nowhere to be seen.
The defence managed to keep a talent-rich 49ers down to just 13 points on the night so what was their excuse? Yes, Fred Warner and the team are going to make it tough for you but don’t just lie down!
