NFL Week Two Star Performers
After an entertaining opening weekend, Week Two threw up more drama with some of the most outstanding comebacks in the last few years. A few exceptional team performances but a number of stand-outs to review too. May the season keep rolling on just like this.
Josh Allen
QB, Buffalo Bills, W 41-7 vs Titans
On Monday night, in the final game of the week, we saw a quarterback who is playing his career best football. If, in Week One, Patrick Mahomes threw down the early MVP gauntlet, Josh Allen threw it right back in his face last night. 26 of 38 attempts for 317yds and 4 TDs, he looked almost perfect.
There seemed to be nothing the Titans could do to slow him down, especially as the second half of the game progressed. A crushing victory for the Bills who look ever more the Super Bowl contenders we expected them to be.
Tyreek Hill / Jaylen Waddle
WRs, Miami Dolphins, W 42-38 @ Ravens
Two weeks in and I already cop out by picking two players together as one of my selections. I’d say I’m sorry but I’m not. There was talk about how dangerous this pair could be and they absolutely showed it, with the Dolphins putting up 28 points in the final quarter, both men going for 11 catches, Hill clocking in 190yds and Waddle grabbing 171, both picking up 2 TDs each.
This against a Defence that really should have been stronger but a couple of injuries in the secondary really opened the door for the dynamic pair and they made Baltimore pay.
Darius Slay
CB, Philadelphia Eagles, W 24-7 vs Vikings
“He’s too old to go toe-to-toe with these guys nowadays”. Horse apples. Slay turned back the clock for the Eagles against a very vibrant WR room at Minnesota, grabbing a pair of interceptions in key moments in the game against a well fancied Vikings side.
Imagine having to watch Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and Irv Smith Jr warming up before the game knowing you’re the guy likely covering any one of them. Do it for the old guard, Darius.
And a week to forget for… Matt Ryan
QB, Indianapolis Colts, L0-24 vs Jags
A sneaky preseason maybe for the big prize, the Colts are no 0-1-1 after two weeks and Matt Ryan had a stinker this week. The Jags did well to close down the Colts options but they were already heavily restricted without Michael Pittman Jr and Alec Pierce out of the action but they couldn’t get anything going.
A meagre sub-200yd night for Ryan punctuated by three interceptions finished off by rolling his throwing hand at the end of the game. Bad week for Ryan.
