Offensive rookie watch: Who impressed in Week Three?

With the fixtures coming thick and fast, here is a quick dip into Week 3 where we saw some HUGE performances from some unlikely sources.

De’Von Achane – RB, Miami Dolphins

He was hyped in the draft for his speed and until now itreally didn’t translate into the NFL for Achane. Coming off a shoulder injury he only saw 6 snaps in Week 2, but boy did he go off in Week 3.

The Dolphins offense looked electric on Sunday putting up 70 points, against what some thought might be a slowly resurging Broncos team under Sean Payton. They were hit with a hard reality check by the Dolphins or more importantly Achane.

Achane ripped through the Broncos defense for 4 scores, 2 on the ground and 2 through the air, with a cumulative 233 yards from scrimmage.

This could be a flash in the pan, but with an offense not just reliant on just one playmaker, Achane could prove to be a stud across the season.

Puka Nacua – WR, LA Rams

Another week, another Puka appreciation post.

Look Puka is likely to only have this number of receptions for the first 4 weeks so lets appreciate him while we can. With Cooper Kupp on the mend the production is likely to run a little dry, but he looks like a dead cert to retain that WR2 position doesn’t he?

Tutu Atwell & Van Jefferson have never been the guys in LA, and Puka is proving week in, week out he can do it against some of the best teams in the league. His production dropped off a little this week but 5 catches for 72 yards is pretty good going for someone finding their way in the league.

Oh and let’s not forget, he makes one-handed catches over the middle.

Ultimately the return of Kupp will hinder him, but Is this the end of Puka’s bid for OROY?

Sam LePorta – TE, Detroit Lions

As a rule of thumb I discount the Tight End position when looking at rookies until we really get some production from them.

Sam LePorta had a GREAT Week Three.

LePorta excels when it comes to contested catches, yetcan still streak away for long touchdowns a la Rob Gronkowski of old. 8 catches for 84 yards with a long TD.

The blossoming connection between him and Jared Goff is an interesting one as they have a receiver corps of few names. St. Brown is their guy, but when they need a safety blanket and LaPorta is sure to be the warmth Goff needs to remain relevant.

Look out for this Tight End… yes a Tight End to make a run for that OROY crown down the stretch on a talented Lions roster.
