Prayers up for Zach Wilson and the Jets

It’s such a tough life being a New York Jets fan, even with all the optimism that comes with the offseason.

After the elation of the NFL Draft and free agency acquisitions, Gang Green’s fanbase have come crashing down to earth over the past week, with injuries to offensive tackle Mekhi Becton and starting quarterback, Zach Wilson.

After sustaining a meniscus injury and a bone bruise in his right knee against the Philadelphia Eagles, Wilson is waiting for surgery in Los Angeles as Jets fans desperately pray for their season to be saved, before it’s even started.

It has been suggested that the injury may only keep the number two pick from 2021 out for just weeks, not months. Wilson might not make the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. But he could be in play for week two.

However, if the doctor treating Wilson does find a complete tear, he will miss the entire season.

Hard timing for former No.2 overall pick

The Jets are optimistic but “not out of the woods”, according to head coach Robert Saleh. It’s going to be a long wait.

Having also dealt with a right knee injury last year, Wilson threw for just 2,334 yards in his rookie season. But the former BYU star had looked to getting a lot better throughout training camp this summer. This was poised to be a much more positive year in New York.

Wilson was preparing for a breakout season, with so many much-needed reinforcements added to the Jets offense to help with his progress.

The Jets have the experienced Joe Flacco currently in line to take the reins if Wilson is side-lined. And the popular Mike White, impressive in the victory against the Bengals in 2021, is also in reserves

But this would be a major set back to their long-term ambitions. The Jets will be praying that yet another star player has escaped long term injury.

Last year, it was Carl Lawson. This time it’s Becton, and possibly Wilson. We’ll have to wait and see just how severe the injury really is. But here’s to Wilson, and all the Jets fans cheering him on. Let’s hope it’s a positive outcome.
