The sale of the Washington Commanders is getting closer as a group led by Josh Harris and NBA legend Magic Johnson have officially submitted a $6billion bid for the franchise.

The future of the team’s ownership has been up in the air for soon time, since embattled owner Dan Snyder enlisted the Bank of America to explore a potential sale of the team last year. Despite speculation, no interested party had reached his lofty valuation until now.

Harris has had interest in acquiring an NFL franchise in the past, having been involved in a $5 billion bid for the Denver Broncos in 2022. The businessman already owns the Philadelphia 76ers NBA team and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, while he is also a part-owner of Premier League’s Crystal Palace.

He is prepared to not only be part of a record-breaking sports franchise sale, that would blow away the old record. The sale of the Broncos last year is the current record.

After decades of Snyder and the controversy around his management as owner, Washington fans can finally start to get excited about a change at the top.

There is still a long way to go, but an official bid to buy the team means a sale might not be that far away.
