Giants agree extension with Daniel Jones, tag Saquon Barkley
The New York Giants have agreed to a four-year deal with quarterback Daniel Jones and have used their franchise tag on star running back Saquon Barkley.
After enjoying a fine year under new head coach Brian Daboll, Jones now has signed a new four-year contract worth $160 million, $82 million guaranteed, with $35M more also available in incentives.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen had been adamant that Jones would remain the team’s quarterback next year, and that while the tag was not his preferred option he would use it to keep the quarterback if he had to.
Jones passed for 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2022, while also rushing for another 708 yards and seven touchdowns.
Barkley, who finished fourth in rushing yards in 2022, will make make $10.091 million in 2023 under the franchise tender.
