Five of the top offenses for the 2025 NFL season

As we approach the 2025 NFL season, the league continues to showcase an offense-driven landscape where explosive plays, innovative schemes, and star talent define success. With offseason moves, draft picks, and returning veterans shaping rosters, projecting the top units is both exciting and uncertain, factoring in potential injuries, coaching changes, and chemistry development.
While many analysts highlight teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Commanders as contenders for elite status, my unranked top five focuses on offenses poised to dominate based on proven production, key additions and schematic advantages. These selections draw from 2024 performances, where the league averaged 22.8 points per game, and incorporate expert projections for the upcoming year.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions, who led the NFL in scoring last season with an impressive 30.5 points per game, enter 2025 navigating significant change after losing their offensive coordinator to the Chicago Bears. Despite this, their high-powered attack remains a force, built around quarterback Jared Goff, who threw for over 4,500 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2024. Goff’s poise and accuracy make him a dark-horse MVP candidate, especially if he elevates his game further in a system that emphasises play-action and quick releases.
The Lions boast one of the league’s premier ‘one-two punches’ at running back with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, combining for over 2,000 rushing yards last year, while wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown continues to shine as a top-tier slot weapon with 1,515 receiving yards in 2024. Tight end Sam LaPorta, entering his third year, adds a dynamic young element with his route-running and red-zone prowess.
If the offense gels under new coordination, Detroit could challenge for the scoring crown again. Projections suggest they’ll rank among the top units, potentially averaging 28-30 points per game, thanks to an elite offensive line led by Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker. A healthy defence should provide ample opportunities for the offense to capitalise on short fields, making the Lions a real contender in the NFC North and beyond. As one preview notes, the team’s rushing attack has improved steadily under head coach Dan Campbell, setting the stage for continued dominance.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams offense ranked in the top half of the league in 2024 (15th in points at 23.8 per game), but with key additions and a healthy Matthew Stafford, they have the potential to vault into the elite tier.
The blockbuster acquisition of wide receiver Davante Adams, who amassed 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns despite a turbulent 2024 with the Jets, pairs perfectly with emerging star Puka Nacua, creating a formidable duo capable of stretching defences. Head coach Sean McVay, one of the NFL’s premier play-callers, has full confidence in Stafford, who at 37 still possesses a cannon arm and threw for 3,965 yards last season despite injury concerns.
Stafford’s arsenal now includes reliable targets like Cooper Kupp (if healthy) and a backfield led by Kyren Williams, who rushed for 1,144 yards in 2024. Projections from experts place Adams at around 1,080 receiving yards and eight scores in this system, boosting the Rams’ passing game efficiency. A young, improving defence—potentially phenomenal with additions like Jared Verse—could force turnovers and give the offense extra possessions, turning the Rams into a dark horse for top-five scoring.
As analysts point out, Adams’ addition addresses a ‘weird situation’ at wideout for the Rams, potentially unlocking their full potential. This unit looks primed for a breakout, averaging a projected 26-28 points per game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield has solidified Tampa Bay as his home, leading the Buccaneers to a surprising playoff run in 2024 with 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. Entering 2025, Mayfield joins Goff as an outside MVP contender, backed by a stacked receiving corps.
Chris Godwin returns after a strong 1,024-yard season, Mike Evans continues chasing history with his pursuit of 1,000-yard campaigns (he’s at 10 straight), and rookie Emeka Egbuka — selected 19th overall in this year’s draft — adds explosive speed and route precision as a potential WR2. Egbuka’s perfectionist mindset has shone in training camp, where he’s displayed quickness and control at the catch point.
The backfield tandem of Bucky Irving and Rachaad White complements each other well. Practising against Todd Bowles’ top-tier defense sharpens this offense daily, fostering resilience and execution. Mayfield, still with “more gears” to unlock, thrives in this supportive environment, and projections see the Bucs as a top-three offense, potentially scoring 28.6 points per game. On paper, Tampa Bay’s attack is fantastic and scary, with Egbuka stepping up to keep multiple pass-catchers fantasy-relevant.
This group is ready for a big year in the NFC South.
Philadelphia Eagles
As reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles approach 2025 with a hungry mindset, treating last year’s triumph as ancient history — a warning to the other 31 teams.
Saquon Barkley, who exploded for 1,459 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in his debut Eagles season, remains firmly in the MVP conversation. The infamous “Tush Push” play stays in the playbook, exploiting their dominant offensive line to convert short-yardage situations at a league-high rate.
Jalen Hurts returns with his dual-threat ability (3,803 passing yards and 15 rushing scores in 2024), supported by elite receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who combined for over 2,500 yards last year. The offense, which ranked third in scoring at 28.9 points per game in 2024, shouldn’t miss a beat under coordinator Robby Patullo, whose familiarity with the system ensures continuity.
With a stable line featuring Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, the Eagles are projected to be even more explosive, potentially topping 26.7 points per game. Their ability to maintain proficiency year-over-year makes them a perennial threat, with bold predictions highlighting their offensive depth as a key to repeating success.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense revolves around Joe Burrow, one of the league’s best quarterbacks, who threw for 4,671 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2024 despite challenges.
Paired with the dynamic wideout duo of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, arguably the NFL’s top tandem, combining for 2,300+ yards last season, this unit has proven talent that’s hard to ignore. Burrow enters as a high-ranked MVP candidate, fuelled by frustration from last year’s early playoff exit and a chip on their shoulder amid defensive distractions.
Running back Chase Brown is set for a bigger role, projected as a “big part” of the offense after showing flashes in 2024. The Bengals ranked sixth in scoring (27.8 points) and eighth in yards per play last year, and with an improved line, they could level up further, potentially becoming fantasy football’s most valuable offense.
Off-field issues aside, their sheer talent makes them a scary prospect, with projections placing them in the top seven units league-wide.
