Nolan Anderson’s NFL Power Rankings: Post Week Three
Week three is wrapped! Let’s look at the updated power rankings.
- Eagles (Last week #5)
It’s time to stop questioning QB Jalen Hurts. Whether on the ground or through the air, Hurts is cementing his place as not only the QB of the future. But one of the best young QB’s in the game.
- Dolphins (Last week #4)
For some reason, home field advantage is only acceptable to the public when its mid-winter in December. The Dolphins used every weapon they had, including the stifling South Florida heat to topple the divisional rivals, the Bills.
- Bills (Last week #1)
At the end of the game, Josh Allen could not even keep his head up. With a severely depleted roster, Allen and the Bills left everything on the field. Expect the Bills to bounce back next week.
- Ravens (Last week #10)
Lamar Jackson continues to dominate. Throwing for four touchdowns, and another on the ground. Jackson continues to shine as one of the most devastating weapons in the NFL.
- Packers (Last week #9)
In what may be the last match up between Tom Brady and Arron Rogers. Rodgers got the win. Beyond just the win, Sunday was a welcomed sight for Packer’s fans to (finally) see QB Aaron Rodgers connecting with his wide receivers.
- Buccaneers (Last week #3)
I am not sure how much we can take from this offensive performance when QB Tom Brady was missing almost the entirety of his starting pass catchers. While the offense struggled, the Tampa Bay defense continues to be one of the best in the league, with the lowest DVOA through 3 games.
- Rams (Last week #8)
After a stunning loss in the home opener, the Rams have quietly put together two decent wins in a row. The arm of Matthew Stafford still bears watching, but the Rams look like they have found their early season groove.
- Chiefs (Last week #2)
The Chiefs did everything in their power on Sunday to give the Colts the win, and still almost pulled out a victory. Bad games happen, and a loss to the Colts does not look good on paper, but don’t expect this to be more than a weird hiccup this season for the Chiefs.
- Jaguars (Last week #17)
Head coach Doug Peterson has done more than just right the ship after the disastrous tenure of Urban Meyer, he has completely overhauled the worst team in the league to a bonafide competitive football team.
- Vikings (Last week #14)
Its hard to trust Kirk Cousins, I get it. But the Vikings are so much more than just their QB. While the health of Dalvin Cook bears watching, the offense did just enough to get the win over the upstart Detroit Lions.
- Cowboys (Last week #20)
Despite the hopes of Jerry Jones, back up QB Cooper Rush is not the second coming of Dak Prescot. While he may not be the next great quarterback, Rush continues to scrape together just enough to keep these boys in the hunt while Prescott recovers.
- Broncos (Last week #13)
Based on the chatter and drama around the Bronco’s, one could assume this was a winless team in tailspin. Despite the drama surrounding the team, the Broncos are currently sitting a top what is considered the toughest division in football.
- Browns (Last week #23)
The Browns had one goal this season, stay afloat until Deshaun Watson can come back. Behind back up Jacoby Brissett, and the most devastating running attack in the league, the Browns are on track.
- Giants (Last week #22)
Daniel Jones is not be the long-term answer at quarterback The Giants have so far impressed this season, but when the former practice squad player outplays the first-round pick, it may be time to finally move on.
- Chargers (Last week #7)
Sometimes the responsibility of the head coach is to save a player from themselves and head coach Brandon Staley missed the memo. The decision to allow Justin Herbert back into the game, down multiple touchdowns late in the fourth, with a sever rib injury, was baffling.
- Bengals (Last week #27)
The Bengals needed their “get right” game and found it with an easy victory over the Jets. After giving up a lead leading number of sacks through the first two games, the Bengals rebounded, and QB Joe Burrow had enough time to pick apart the Jets secondary.
- Bears (Last week #24)
Here’s a question most modern offenses have never asked themselves; How many games can we win without throwing the football? The Bears are determined to figure that out this year, with the least number of passes attempted this season. Though they seemed to have found a gem of player in running back Khalil Herbert.
- 49ers (Last week #11)
Trey Lance is gone for the season, and the return of Jimmy Garoppolo showed us why the 49ers moved on from him in the first place. Maybe you can chalk up the poor performance to the lack of cohesion, but one week in, and its not looking great.
- Lions (Last week #18)
I know it is getting old to hear, the Lions lost but man are they feisty!
- Colts (Last week #32)
Apologies to the betting public and survivor pools, but the Colts just beat the Chiefs! Granted, they needed a muffed punt, a questionable flag call, and a 1 in a 100 drop from TE Travis Kelce to get there, but a win is a win!
- Titans (Last week #30)
Starting a season 0-3 is all but a death blow for a team’s playoffs hopes. While not the dominating performance we have come to expect from running back Derek Henry, the Titans did enough to keep their hopes alive for the 2022 season.
- Commanders (Last week #16)
For the first time since his unceremonious ouster, QB Carson Wentz took the field against his former team, and proceeded to spend the next four quarters on his back while giving up ALL the sacks.
- Patriots (Last week #19)
A loss is never good but losing your starting QB for multiple weeks is even worse. Mac Jones is expected to miss multiple weeks with a ‘severe’ high ankle sprain.
- Cardinals (Last week #15)
Back yard football is not a real formula to win games. As fun as it is to see QB Kyler Murray, The Cardinals will continue to lose games without a real NFL offensive scheme.
- Steelers (Last week #21)
How many more weeks will the Steelers stubbornly stick with Mitch Trubisky? Haven’t we seen enough?
- Panthers (Last week #29)
This Panthers offense is not going to win any beauty contests, but they did just enough on Sunday to pull out the victory against the Saints.
- Saints (Last week #12)
Jameis Winston has a broken back, a broken back! Yet the Saints have pulled the wool over their eyes and continue to punish the narrative that the broken back is not adversely affecting Winston. Okay, sure.
- Falcons (Last week 31)
The Falcons finally got into the win column this week, but the same questions remain. After drafting a consensus generational talent in TE Kyle Pitts, the coaching staff seems to almost refuse to use their top weapon.
- Jets (Last week #22)
Can we really assess this team when their starting QB is 157-year-old Joe Flacco?
- Seahawks (Last week #25)
Someone free DK Metcalf! The Seahawks offense has not performed since the first half of the first game.
- Raiders (Last week #26)
After their off season moves, the Raiders had big expectations heading into the season. Three games in, and the Raiders are the only team in the NFL with out a win.
- Texans (Last week #28)
What’s worse than having no wins on the season? Having no wins and a tie.
