NFL Playoffs: Chiefs to meet Eagles in Super Bowl 57
Harrison Butker kicked a game-winning field goal at the death to help the Kansas City Chiefs earn a place in Super Bowl 57, where they will face the Philadelphia Eagles.
Patrick Mahomes starred in the thrilling victory, completing 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns, as he led his to a 23-20 triumph over the Cincinnati Bengals.
It was a a repeat of last season’s AFC Championship Game, when the Bengals claimed a shock overtime win. This time, the Chiefs got their revenge, and will back in the Super Bowl for the third time in four years.
Earlier, the Eagles crushed an injury-hit San Francisco 49ers 31-7 for the NFC title in Philadelphia.
The Niners struggled to ever get going in the contest, with rookie Brock Purdy, who had led the 49ers to victory on his first seven NFL starts, and his back-up Josh Johnson going off injured as the Eagles’ pass rush proved too strong.
It means the top seeds in each conference, who both finished the regular season with a 14-3 record, will meet for the NFL championship in Arizona on 12 February.
This season’s Super Bowl takes place in Arizona on Sunday, 12 February, with the big game making a swift return to the Phoenix suburb of Glendale as the State Farm Stadium has already hosted NFL’s championship game twice – in 2008 and 2015.
Completed in 2006, ‘the Big Toaster’ has a capacity of 73,000, with a retractable roof and a roll-in grass field.
This year’s half-time show marks the long-awaited return of Rihanna, who is set to make her first live performance in more than five years.
