Bill Belichick and New England Patriots to part ways
After much speculation during the 2023 NFL season, legendary head coach Bill Belichick will the leave the New England Patriots after 24 years, per Adam Schefter.
Following another disappointing year, it was expected that the two parties would separate, following a two-decade dynasty span which was littered with championship titles and superstars. Now owner Robert Kraft has made that decision.
Belichick won six Super Bowl titles with the Patriots and led probably the greatest dynasty in NFL history since joining the team in 2000. With Tom Brady at the helm, many consider Belichick to be the greatest coach of all-time, and was able to build and rebuild multiple winning teams around his quarterback during his tenure.
But New England’s final game 17-3 loss to the New York Jets cemented the Pats’ with a 4-13 record in 2023, Belichick’s worst record during his 29-year career, but the 71-year-old is expected to be heavily touted for a new role elsewhere.
‘I’m for whatever collectively we decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team,’ Belichick said during a video conference on Monday, which turned out to be his last appearance with the team.
Former Patriot Mike Vrabel, who parted ways with the Tennessee Titans earlier this week, is the early frontrunner to replace Belichick.
More to follow.
The club and the six-time Super Bowl winning coach have agreed to part ways by the end of business on Thursday, a source tells OutKick. And that will bring to a close a relationship that since 2000 endured as the most stable and successful in the NFL.
